I Is Sick

Source: cheezburger.com via Ivy on Pinterest

Hello lovelies! Guess who had a sick day today?!? If you guessed me then you win a million dollars!!! Oh wait, scratch that, I'm a teacher and we don't make that kind of money. I digress. So, yep I took a sick day.

I is sick. I blame it on the 50 children I work with on a daily basis. I love them to death, but they give me all their germs (sad face).

After dragging my happy tail out of the bed, I marched myself to the nearest clinic and was first in line at 8:00 this morning. That's right you read correctly, 8:00. I didn't even sleep in on my day off. Two steroid shots later, I was out the door and on the way to the pharmacy.

Feeling a little loopy, and a teensy bit tired I called my mama to complain about my rear hurting from that durn shot. I mean that's any southern girl would do in my situation. The afore mentioned durn shot not only hurt, but caused me to sleep ALL day, which explains why I am up now. Oops. Back to the on the way to the pharmacy story. Umm...so I hit a bird on the way to the pharmacy. I'm pretty sure I did anyway. However, in my current state at the time, I could've totes dreamed that up. The was this pretty little red bird flying in front of my car, then he was flying under my car. If you're looking for a silver lining, I can report that the bird escaped without injury. Mama thought I had completely lost my marbles when I was on the phone explaining my bird story to her. She was all, "Go home and don't drive your car anymore today". Not so sure if this was for my safety, or the local bird's.

Well, I'm off to take my meds, then off to bed. If I'm lucky!

P.S. My boss called to check on me (she's the best) and I really have no clue what I said to her. Scary thought. I'm hopping and praying to the Dear Lord above that I didn't say anything too crazy. I mean I don't think I told her the bird story. If so, I'll just blame it on the cough meds.

Ramblings of the Past

Since I officially have no time to blog anymore I end up having to do the catch up posts. It's really rather sad. :( Let's see...it's been about a month since I have blogged, so I missed filling you in on a lot. Raise your hand if you're a bad blogger. (Even though you don't see it, I'm raising my hand). Okay, let's begin catching up.

Harvest Party. Omg....nothing could've prepared me for this. Why do they not tell us about this in school. Here's the deal...Friday afternoon, 22 kids, cupcakes, tons of candy, chips, dips, soda a plenty, cookies, and rice krispie pumpkins. Can we say sugar over load? Can we also say I needed a major nap after this party. Thank you Lord for getting me through that crazy. All in all, it was fun and the kids had a wonderful time. Therefore, it's a win in my book.

Rookie mistake. I remembered to tell my children to bring a drink, but I forgot to bring the cooler. We had to improvise. Oops. I have learned that being a first year teacher is all about learning to roll with the punches.

Happy Halloween! Just a few weeks late. Oops...better late than never? I decided at about 5:00 on October 31 that I should dress up for Halloween. I thought the trick-or-treaters would love it. Anything for the kiddos you know. I was in a rush I find a costume, so I decided it would be a good idea to raid my brothers closet. This is what I came up with. I was pretty pleased with it.

Lucy was not as excited about her costume as I was about mine. I mean she didn't hate it, but she sure was happy when I took it off. What a precious little pirate.

My favorite little girl came to see me. :)
Family Reunion. What normal family has there reunion at a dance hall? That would be my family and no we are not normal apparently. However, having a bunch of talented musicians in the family did come in handy. It was nice to catch up with everyone under the disco ball. Haha.

Football season is over for my beloved Warriors. Sad face. I really enjoyed watching my baby brother play this season. Honestly, nothing in this world makes me happier than seeing him play the sports he loves. So very proud of the young man he is becoming.

Baseball season is just around the corner. Happy face.

I bought Lucy the most precious form of doggy uggs. She hated them. I wasted my money and gas having to return the shoes. Cute in theory, not so hot in reality. Oh well, we can't win them all.

I prepared for my first substitute. I was so proud of how organized I left everything for her. Thank you "How to Plan Your School Year". I was so nervous about not being there. As far as I know everything ran pretty smooth. They did try to talk her into giving them candy at the end of the day. Thankfully, she didn't fall for that one.

I was so excited to sleep in this past Tuesday. You don't know how excited I was when my alarm didn't go off at 5:30. My excitement was short lived when I had to haul myself to the dentist on my day off. Hello 8:30! I was not the least bit excited about starting my day off with the sounds of drills. I had a cracked crown that had to be replaced and this was the only time they could work me in. I was just thankful I had already scheduled the day off.

After the dentist office my day could only get better right? Right! Mama and me had a relaxing day of manicures and pedicure lined up. Heaven on earth people.

The next morning, yesterday, I woke up at 2:00 in the morning shivering and sweating all at the same time. I knew immediately this was not a good time. I crawled out of bed and checked my temp. According to the old as dirt thermometer we have, I had no fever. I knew it was wrong, but I decided to go with what it said and I headed back to bed, with an extra blanket in tow to sweat the fever off. My plan failed miserably, when I woke up at 5:30 I felt horriable. Of course I did, I have a fever of 100.5. I took some tylenol, packed up my things, and headed to work.

I thought I was going to die before the day was over. After school I took myself straight to the doctor. I was informed I had strep. Joy. I had a lovely decadron shot, and was put on two antibiotics. I slept for almost twelve and woke up feeling almost human this morning. I made it through work fine today and am starting to feel like myself again. So long strep please don't come again soon.

Until next time...

It's Been a LOOOONNNG Time Girls!

Oh my word ladies it has been a loooonnggg time. Over an entire month since my last post to be exact. That is just sad. I get on blogger almost everyday to read everyone else's blog posts, but lately I've been neglecting my own little piece of this bloggy world.

There really isn't too much to report. Still single. Still teaching. Still watching lots of football. Those three little sentences pretty much sum up my life right now.

To catch you up on ever things that's been going on in my life the past month, I thought I would do a little picture post. Bear with me here as you scroll through a TON of pictures.

The sweetest little girl in my class came up to my desk the other day and handed me this sweet little not. Apparently in her eyes, I'm a pageant princess. I couldn't care less about that. I'm more excited about the role model part. I have the best job in the world, I get the opportunity to influence young minds and shape the future. I pray each day that I am doing what is best for my children. Hopefully I am someone worth modeling.

I was so excited to receive my very first apple. I feel like such a real teacher now!

I have a student in my class whose father played football at Ole Miss and is in the Ole Miss Hall of Fame. He was telling me that his parents were going to the Hall of fame reunion and they were going to see Archie Manning. I jokingly said, "You be sure to get me an autograph". He said, " Okay Miss. Holley I sure will". Boy did he ever. He brought this into me the following Monday.
This little baby is the new love of my life. Ladies allow me to introduce you to the Erin Condren life planner. I did not pay the full price for this little charm. Shipping was free and I had a gift card. So, I paid next to nothing for it. After using this planner for a few weeks now I have realized that I would be willing to pay full price for it the next time. Totally worth it ladies.

I took my adorable baby brother to his first Ole Miss game. He never misses a game on television, but he has never seen a game in person. I have been trying to convince him to go to a game with me for forever. He finally caved and went with me. We may have lost, but we sure had lots of fun!
Look who I found! Two of my favorite friends! Miss the boys an awful lot.

Hotty Toddy! Go Rebs!

Family Campfire! Nothing better than roasting marshmellows with your family circled around a good camp fire. Man how I love Fall.

Shira Lani came for a visit. It was so nice to see her. We talk on the phone several times a week, but there is nothing like spending time together in the same place. I miss my sweet friend.

I've been working on redoing my room for some time now. When I moved back home after graduating, my poor little room looked the same as it did when I was a senior in high school. Let's just say my style has changed a little since I was a seventeen year old. Here's the finished product. I'm loving it!

Who's ready for so high school football? We are!! I love spending time with my sweet mini me at all my brother's games. She sure keeps my life interesting!

I was one happy sister this Friday because my brother started in his very first varsity football game. I was so proud of him I was beaming. I have been watching this child pay ball since he was seven. Watching him do what he loves brings a smile to my face every time. Love him more than I can tell you!

Poor thing woke up this morning with the stomach bug. Send healing prayers up for him please. Praying that no one else in the family gets it.

Enjoy your Sunday ladies!

Honest Post

I try to be as open and honest as possible on my blog. I don't like hiding things that are going on in my life. If you have noticed, I have been a little absent lately. This is greatly due to the fact that I haven't wanted to be honest about my life right now.

About a month and a half ago I ended my relationship with my boyfriend of five years. This was not an easy thing for me to do. Ultimately, I had to follow my heart and do what would make me happy.

I feel like a whole my chapter of my life has opened up. Everyday I add a new page to the chapter and that is exciting to me. I love my job, my sweet fourth graders are the lights of my life. Being a first year teacher is very hard. I am completely wiped by the end of the day and I'm usually in bed by 8:30, 9:00 at the latest. Glamourous I know.

My life has changed so much over the past few months. I feel like a completely different person. I know I am. It has been a hard road, but I know God has a plan for me.

This little verse sits on the window seal behind my desk, the other day I was leaving work in a hurry and I knocked it off. I was so mad because I was in a hurry and I didn't want to sit all of my things down to pick it up. It had been a horrible day and I was not in a great mood. As I reached down to pick it up, I realized what it was. I couldn't help but smile as I placed it back in the window. All I could think was how much my God knew I needed a little encouragement at that moment. Maybe this will encourage you as well.

Until next time...

It's a Random Post

I'm a bad blogger. Let's just be honest and go ahead and admit it. You know it, I know it, we all know it. Lately life has become very busy and blogging has taken a back seat. I am going to cut myself a little slack because I do have a very legit excuse for my recent absence. I recently got a little something I like to call a "big girl job", which has kept me very busy. However, since this is such an exciting time in my life I feel like it is much more important to blog about whats going on now. I haven't been doing the best job at that, but I will try to do better.

Moving on, I want to do a quick recap of what I've been doing while I was away from bloggy world....

1. This summer has been filled with lots and lots of snow cones. We seriously have the best snow cone shop in my beloved small town. When I say the best, I seriously mean it. It is so good that I will wait in line for twenty minutes in the 100 degree southern heat.

2. I feel like I go to Wal-Mart like a thousand times a week now days. Every time I work in my classroom I discover that I am missing something that I need. This tends to happen when I've been to the store the day before. Oy! The last time I was in Wal-Mart they were putting up the back to school displays. :)

3. Fourth of July! What better way to celebrate than with a few close friends and family in the grove. It was beautiful! The firework display never lets me down. Hotty Toddy!

4. A few days after the fourth I had to go to the doctor. Boo! Although I enjoyed my time in the grove, my allergies did not. Stupid allergies and sinuses.

5. My classroom is coming together, finally. I have been working in it a lot lately and it is almost complete. I am planning on finishing it up tomorrow. Maybe I will upload some pics of the finished product. Cleaning these built-in's was an absolute pain. Can you find the Windex bottle in this picture? If you can then 1,000 points to you. I spent the whole day looking for it that day. Only to come home and show my mama the picture and then notice it. That's just the way my life goes right now.

6. I finally finished redecorating my room. This project only took me a month and a half. When I made the decision to move home after graduation, I knew that major work needed to be done to my bedroom. Since I moved out it had become a bit of a catch all. I basically moved everything out and got new furniture. That was a process. My granddaddy had a beautiful waterfall chest he gave me. I took it to a lady who painted it for me to match my desk and I think it looks perfect.

7. Lucy has been very helpful around the house lately. See how she helped mommy fold the laundry. I love her so much, but she is a mess.

Well, I think that covers most everything. I will try to do a better job. Promise. Why do I feel like I've said this before?

Sewing and Serenades

Before I begin discussing the main purpose of this blog, I have a BIG announcement to make!!!

I finally have a JOB! Guess who is a new 4th grade Math and Science teacher.

If you guessed me then you are correct my friend. I was so excited to go work in my classroom Wednesday. I worked for about six hours and I made some very good progress if I do say so myself.

Before:

After:

It's a work in progress so don't judge me yet. :)

Here are a few pictures of some cute things I have made for my room. Don't start thinking I'm creative or anything. All these ideas came from Pinterest. If you don't know what that is you should go check it out. I highly recommend it!

Now that I have shared my good news with all of you, let's discuss the topic at hand.

I have the greatest Grandparents ever! Just saying...

When I found this fabric, I knew exactly who to call about sewing it into curtains for my classroom for me!
Tonight after supper my Mama and I made the twenty minute drive down the road to my Grandparent's house in the tiny community of Randolph. Some of my fondest memories from my childhood took place at their house. It makes my heart smile just thinking about them.

I decided I wanted to give sewing a try and I found a great teacher to help me. She was very concerned that I did not already know how to operate a sewing machine. She couldn't understand why I didn't learn this in home economics. I politely explained to her that we don't have that anymore. Sadly, those classes have been replaced with classes such as computer concepts. Of course, she did not approve of this.

She let me do the bottom hem and then she said, "Haley do you want to get this done or do you want to keep playing around". Needless to say, she took over the sewing for the rest of the night and I became the observer. Side note: I think I will purchase a sewing machine. It would be a very good hobby. Just call me Suzy Homemaker. Not.

Grandaddy decided to serenade us while we worked. I know I'm biased, but he has the most amazing voice in the world. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear him sing. I really wish I had received some of his singing abilities. Oh well, we can't all be beautiful singers.

I can't wait to hang these beautiful curtains in my room! What sweet memories they will bring back to me.
